Richard Lewis Lyke
June 21st, 1947 – November 19th, 2024
Richard grew up in Casper, Wyoming exploring his beloved Casper Mountain with his sister Mary. After achieving his PhD in Chemistry from the University of Minnesota, his love of learning led him to change careers in his early 40s to become a Psychotherapist, a career he pursued with dedication for over thirty years.
His love of exploration took him, and often those he loved, to experience the wonders of nature and to learn about other cultures, sometimes in the form of epic road-trips, or more recently, on his sailboat. Since the early 1980s, he chose to make London, Ontario his home and was deeply grateful for his profound friendships and the rich communities of which he was a part: The Ranch Collective, The Shalom Community, Fred Astaire Dance Studio, The NIA dancing group, and The Family Service Irregulars. These communities supported him in the exploration that was perhaps most deeply meaningful to him: learning how to move through this world with love and compassion for others and himself.
Richard is pre-deceased by his parents Lewis and Rosalie (née Masterson) Lyke. In the United States, he is survived by his sister Mary Beall (née Lyke) brother-in-law Kevin, niece Katherine Beall, and his aunt Kathleen and partner, as well as his cousins in New York and Colorado. Here in Ontario, Richard is survived by his many dear friends, notably his voluntary family Deanne and Dave, Clive and Brynah, Adela and Patricia, and Mary Anne; his three stepchildren Tamber Figurski, Kate Hoffman, and Alex Hoffman; and by his beloved daughter Claire Lyke, their spouse A Jamali Rad, and Claire and Tamber’s mother Sara Steers.
