Sylvia Smith

April 23, 1926 - October 5, 2023

A quiet lady through and through with a glow of class and sophistication, that was our Sylvia. Yes, Sylvia you have finally earned your Angel Wings. We are saddened to announce the passing of Sylvia Smith on October 5, 2023 at Henley Place LTC.

What a long and for the most part healthy life you lived. Sylvia spent the past several years living at The Royalcliffe, Amica, Masonville Manor and when care was needed moved to Henley Place. Sylvia was born in Stoke Goldinton, England the daughter of Jesse & Ruby (nee Bason) Bland. She was the proud Mother of Christine Anthony and Joan Anthony and Grandmother to Michael Anthony all of which reside in the UK. Sylvia came to Canada in 1967 along with her husband and 2 children. Her husband was a police officer and he and his best friend founded the Canine Department in London, Ontario. That was partly where her love for dogs came from. Over the years she has loved having St. Bernard's (her favourite), German Shepherds, Labs, Golden Retrievers, & Springer Spaniels. Sylvia poured her heart and soul into loving and caring for these pets. Sylvia enjoyed curling and was part of the London Life curling team. She loved to dress in beautiful clothes (purple being her favourite colour), wear high heeled shoes and put her make-up on. She was noted for sending lovely cards and thoughtful notes to friends.

Sylvia was a long time and dedicated employee for London Life and retired from there. She had few close friends but Evelyn Hart & Christine Fackrell are two that she spoke very fondly of.

Over the years Sylvia would enjoy going to the Stratford Theatre, Grand Theatre, and the Opera in Toronto. She would return to England to visit family and holiday as well as enjoyed time in France and the Caribbean Islands. Before Covid hit Sylvia looked forward to her lunches with Lynda McNabb. Archies fish and chips and shrimp were her favourite. When online shopping became popular she was very computer literate & would order a lot of her clothing, shoes, and household items, sometimes ending up with 2 of the same things. Nothing ever went back though.

Sylvia has been cremated and her remains will be buried in the UK with her parents.

A very special thank you to Shawn and Bruce from Forest City Cremation Services. During these past years when Sylvia required nursing care the Gibbons Unit at Henley Place provided that. Thank you Dr. Nichol, Nursing Department, Dietary, Recreation (especially Carrie Clarke for all the face time moments when we could not visit), Housekeeping, Laundry, Maintenance, Beauty Salon, Front Reception and Administrative staff. Your love and care made it comforting and reassuring for us. God Bless you as you work in a profession that is not always glim and glamour. Job Well Done team!

Lynda and Jim McNabb, Christine Anthony, Joan Anthony, Michael Anthony.
